Barnsdall Art Park Farmers Market, Los Angeles

barnsdall park farmers market

There's a new farmer's market in our neighborhood! On June 24th, the Barnsdall Art Park Farmers Market, Los Angeles opened for business every Wednesday from noon to 6 pm. We love farmers markets for fresh and often unique produce and this is a welcome addition to the famous Hollywood farmers market on Sunday mornings. Putting this market together is Kaiser Permanente which has a history of hosting farmers markets at various medical centers in California. The market is sponsored/managed by the Model Neighborhood Program in association with Kasier Permanente Sunset. Hosting farmers markets fits into Kaiser's goal of preventive medicine and urging it's members to be well and "thrive."

Located in the parking lot of Barnsdall Art Park, home of Hollyhock House designed by Frank Lloyd Wright, the market is not very large but has enough of a variety that if you work in the neighborhood or pass by on your way home from work it's definitely worth a visit. There's lots of produce vendors and several food vendors: kettle corn, crepes, and grills. Plant vendors sell orchids as well as herbs. Fresh honey, cheeses and even a seafood vendor! You can make a day of it by taking a tour of the Hollyhock house every hour starting 12:30 to 3:30.

  1. Beautiful pictures. In this sort of market, I buy a lot of vegetables; more than I can cook! It's too difficult to choose...

  4. Nice story, beautiful pix. But is there anyway you could influence them to provide organic spring mix at less than $7/lb? There is only one farmer there that sells it, for $1.75 for 1/4 lb. Yes, unemployed pinch-penny that I am, I did the math. Organic produce should not be MORE expensive at the farmers market, it should be less. Thanks for the beautiful pictures!
